Family-owned Bill Ussery Motors* is the oldest Mercedes-Benz dealer in Florida and one of South Florida's most well-known and respected businesses. For more than 50 years, the company has been admired industry-wide for its continued record sales and its reputation for superb customer service.
William (Bill) L. Ussery opened the dealership in 1953 with a partner under the name of Caldwell-Ussery U-Drive-It. Soon after, Ussery became the sole owner and renamed the company Bill Ussery Motors, Inc. The company's current Chairman and CEO, Robert (Bob) Brockway, is the grandson of the company's founder.
The dealership's first foray into the new car market began when they were awarded a Studebaker and MG franchise. In 1957, the company was awarded its Mercedes-Benz franchise. The dealership's original location was 297 Almeria Avenue in Coral Gables (pictured here).
In the 1960s and '70s, Mercedes-Benz sales continued to rise, fueled by innovative technology and an unswerving reputation for quality. In fact, the vehicle's icon -- a three-pointed star -- became a brand that portrays luxury, reliability and craftsmanship. Then in 1974 Ussery sold the dealership to his son-in-law John Brockway Sr. and his daughter, Patricia -- the second generation of family owners.
Brockway Sr. focused on the hiring of talented people, such as general manager Bill Newcomb who ran the dealership from 1973 to 1995. In 1992, the Gables dealership, now Mercedes-Benz of Coral Gables, moved across the street to a more spacious and attractive facility that remains its location today.
For Bill Ussery Motors, 2008 will be the most significant year of growth since taking on the Mercedes-Benz line.
The company is proud to introduce its second Mercedes-Benz dealership, Mercedes-Benz of Cutler Bay. Opened in September 2008, the state-of-the-art facility offers new and pre-owned vehicle sales, a service department, a boutique and a large client center complete with refreshment area, space for clients to access the Internet while waiting for service, and even a children's activity area.
